Laos has quietly become one of Southeast Asia's most exciting climbing destinations. From the towering limestone cliffs around Thakhek to newly discovered sandstone boulders and unexplored valleys, the country still offers enormous potential for climbers willing to explore beyond the established areas.

Unlike many climbing destinations, route development in Laos is largely driven by passionate volunteers and private individuals. Every year, climbers invest their own time, money, and expertise to discover new cliffs, clean routes, install safe anchors, and create guidebooks that everyone can enjoy.

Our Mission

At Green Climbers Home, we believe that developing climbing areas means more than equipping routes. Sustainable development requires cooperation with local communities, government authorities, landowners, and fellow climbers.

Our goal is to support climbing development throughout Laos by helping local and international developers with logistics, local knowledge, permits, accommodation, transportation, and connecting them with the right people. Many of the people creating new climbing areas are volunteers who finance their projects themselves. Whenever possible, we help turn their ideas into reality.

Turning the Thakhek Loop into a Climbing Loop

The Thakhek Loop is already one of Laos' most popular motorcycle adventures. Our long-term vision is to transform it into a true Climbing Loop, where visitors can discover multiple climbing and bouldering destinations along the route.

Instead of a single climbing area, we envision a network of crags that encourages climbers to spend more time in the region, supports local communities, and showcases the incredible geological diversity of central Laos.

Several new sectors and bouldering areas are already under development, with more exploration taking place every season.

Working Together

Route development is a community effort. Local climbers, international volunteers, developers, photographers, guidebook authors, and sponsors all contribute in different ways.

Whether someone spends weeks cleaning a cliff, donates bolts and anchors, helps negotiate access with villages, or simply shares information about a promising wall, every contribution helps expand climbing opportunities in Laos.

We are grateful to everyone who contributes to this shared vision.

Follow the Development

This section of our blog documents ongoing climbing projects across Laos. Here you'll find stories from new route development, exploration trips, bolting projects, access negotiations, and the people working behind the scenes to create new climbing opportunities.

The adventure of climbing in Laos is still being written—and there are countless walls waiting to be discovered.
