Season 2024/25 Part 7

January has been treating us unusually well this season. While much of Southeast Asia is known for its tropical heat, we've been enjoying exceptionally cool conditions. Night temperatures have occasionally dropped to 15°C, while daytime highs have stayed between 25 and 28°C—what climbers simply call sending weather.

With perfect conditions, camp life has settled into a relaxed rhythm. Mornings start slowly, afternoons are spent at the crags, and evenings bring everyone together over dinner to share stories, beta, and plans for the next day.

Mal has been making the most of the season by organizing regular staff climbing sessions. It's been a great way for the team to improve their skills while spending time together on the rock. Several guests have joined in as well, especially Nikita and Ryan, who have been keen to help out and share their experience.

Ryan also wrote a wonderful article about his time here for the British Mountaineering Council's Summit magazine. Issue #118 2025. It's a great read and captures the atmosphere of climbing in Thakhek beautifully.

Below you'll find a selection of photos from these climbing sessions, along with a link to Ryan's article—we highly recommend giving it a read.
