What’s Changing at Green Climbers Home for the 2026/27 Season

The new climbing season will look a little different at Green Climbers Home. Both Camp 1 and Camp 2 will be open, but after the fire at Camp 2 two years ago, we have decided to operate the two camps differently for the coming season.

Here is what you can expect.

What happened to Camp 2?

Two years ago, the Camp 2 restaurant burned down. Fortunately, we were able to recover quickly and opened a temporary pop-up restaurant, allowing us to keep Camp 2 running despite losing the main building.

The plan was always to replace this temporary solution with a new restaurant. We had hoped to have it ready before the coming season, but things did not work out as quickly as expected.

Financing the construction was one part of the challenge, but getting the necessary permissions and organizing the project also took considerably longer than planned. Once the rainy season arrived, the window for starting construction had effectively closed.

Rather than trying to rush the project, we decided to change the setup for the coming season.

A smaller season with a maximum of 70 guests

In previous seasons, Camp 1 and Camp 2 each had their own full restaurant and together could accommodate around 120 guests.

For the 2026/27 season, we will limit the total number of guests at Green Climbers Home to 70 people.

Camp 1 will operate normally, with the main restaurant, bar and the usual facilities.

At Camp 2, the bungalows will remain open, but there will not be a full restaurant this season.

This allows us to continue using Camp 2 without trying to recreate the old restaurant with another large temporary structure.

Camp 2 will still have its own little social spot

No full restaurant does not mean an empty Camp 2.

We will have the usual self-service area, where you can grab drinks whenever you need them, as well as a small bar with a compact kitchen.

The exact menu is still being worked out, but the idea is to offer things such as:

• coffee and shakes
• sandwiches and simple snacks
• a small selection of meals
• cold drinks and beer

We will also bring back an outdoor sitting area where you can hang out in the evening, have a drink and meet other climbers. There will be music, and from time to time we hope to set up our outdoor cinema again.

So Camp 2 should still feel like Camp 2 — just on a smaller scale.

What if I want something from the full menu?

The main restaurant will be at Camp 1, about 500 metres from Camp 2.

If you are staying at Camp 2 and want breakfast, dinner or something else from the full restaurant menu, you can simply walk over to Camp 1.

The two camps have always been close enough to move easily between them, and this season they will function a little more like two parts of one camp rather than two completely independent camps.

Why we think this is the right solution

Of course, we would have preferred to welcome everyone back with a brand-new Camp 2 restaurant already standing.

But after the experience of the last two years, we would rather build it properly than rush into another temporary solution simply because the season is approaching.

Reducing our capacity to 70 guests gives us the opportunity to keep both camps open while making sure the facilities we do have can comfortably handle the number of people staying with us.

Camp 1: full restaurant, bar and accommodation.
Camp 2: bungalows, self-service area, small bar and limited food menu.
Green Climbers Home: maximum 70 guests.

And, of course, the rocks are still exactly where we left them.
